It’s time to open your ears and hearts to Mishka’s smooth reggae rhythms. On “Above the Bones,” the former windsurfer with roots in the Caribbean and Canada delivers an easygoing, guitar-based groove that echoes the positive vibes flowing through the album of the same name. This week we present a club-friendly jam that will have dancehall lovers winding their hips.  “Tic Toc” finds Jamaica’s Busy Signal flexing nimble syllable control as he flaunts an animated ragga flow.

Like many of the big club-fillers on M.J.’s Mi Sentimiento, “Lento (Ella Se Mueve)” makes a perfect combination out of M.J.’s sugar-sweet melodies and slick, booming beats. This tune is showered with intergalactic synth patterns that make the thick, chunky rhythm feel like it’s being beamed straight back from the future.

Picture Sublime jamming with Jack Johnson on Don Carlos’ back porch — that’s Rebelution. The three-year old band from Santa Barbara, California, uses reggae as its base element then adds colorful rock and hip-hop embellishment. “Safe and Sound” epitomizes Rebelution’s sunny “California Reggae” vibe that propelled its debut album, Courage to Grow to prominence on iTunes.

Mavado is a Jamaican dancehall artist with a thick, rumbling vocal style that comes close to the style of dancehall epitomized by his inspiration and label mate, Bounty Killer. This beat is a booming, bubbling electro pulse, over which Mavado carves out a meditative, revealing look at city life in his thick patois. The track is from Mavado’s debut, Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks.
