Atto And The Majestic - Transistor

Each week we find a track from an artist or a band we’ve been enjoying and bring it to you, for free, as our Canciòn de la Semana. Atto & The Majestics pulls together musicians from Mexico City’s fertile indie rock scene: Ianina Ricco (Selle) on keyboards, Leon Chiprut (Alex Syntek) on lead guitar, Ismael Salcedo (Los Daniels) on bass guitar, and Jaime Ortega (La Catrina) on drums. “Transistor,” the first single from their double album Bifocal, throttles to a a serpentine guitar lick, rumbles along a subaqueous bassline, and features thematically apt radio feedback.

Crystal Antlers - Summer Solstice - Indie Free Download

Each week we’ll be selecting music from an independent artist we’re excited about and bringing it to you, for free, as our Indie Free Download. This Southern California crew plays a frantic mixture of ghostly, reverb-drenched pop with some pretty sharp edges. "Summer Solstice" hides its melancholy melody under cascading waves of feedback and pummeling drumming. With famed producer Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney) onboard and renowned underground artist Raymond Pettibon (Black Flag, Sonic Youth) handling the album art, Crystal Antlers are knee-deep in credibility and, what’s more, great tunes.

Chikita Violenta - Tired

Each week we find a track from an artist or a band we’ve been enjoying and bring it to you, for free, as our Canción de la Semana. Chikita Violenta has been buzzing on our radar ever since we presented “Roni” as a Single of the Week back in August. But when the Mexico City quartet rocked SXSW with this live performance (available on an EP), the buzz became as deafening as Sonic Youth’s famed feedback. A vision of fuzzy edges, “Tired” lights up with a hypnotic melisma of electric guitar riffs, aerial synths, and the relentless salvo from a well-timed kickdrum.

New Politics - Yeah Yeah Yeah

Our Discovery Download puts the focus on a different genre each week, offering up a free track we think is worth your attention. New Politics are from Denmark, but they relocated to Williamsburg, Brooklyn to practice their boisterous blend of pop, punk, and rock’n’rolll. “Yeah Yeah Yeah” starts with a pair of drumsticks clapping out a breakneck tempo. A feedback-heavy, shrieking chorus shortly ensues, before stumbling into a petulant rap-rock verse by vocalist David Boyd. Destined for moshpit immortality.

Glasvegas – Geraldine

Glasvegas - Geraldine

This Glaswegian group have been together just two years and have already made frothing fans of critics back home thanks to two big singles – “Daddy’s Gone” and “Go Square Go!” – songs that swelled with feedback and honeyed melodies. Their sound calls to mind of early (read: pre-Oasis) Creation Records with touches of the Jesus and Mary Chain’s noise assault and much more up-front, emotive vocals. Try the track “Geraldine” and get ready for your new favorite band.
